Christian Holmes Outside Topic #5

Heidegger’s point of objects only manifesting themselves when said objects are viewed within their whole context makes me think of nails in Christianity. On their own, nails are simply long, thin pieces of metal used to fasten objects together, generally for the purpose of construction. However, when viewed within the whole context of Christianity, “nails” becomes a much richer object. The nails are not only the tools of the one fastened to the wood (seeing as he was a carpenter), but the nails are also the tools of blood sacrifice. This blood sacrifice fulfills thousands of years of in vain sacrifices and merits mankind communion with God. This blood sacrifice was prophesied for centuries and was the fulfillment of Gods promises to His creation, which, was groaning under the pains of its own sin and guilt. In this context, the nail is not merely a piece of metal, but as a means to justification. This full context and meaning is only experience as the singular object is viewed in light of the world it exists in.
