As
C.S Lewis writes, “we want something else that can hardly be put into words –
to be united with beauty; to become a part of it.”
At
the beginning of the semester we looked at a quote by CS. Lewis which alludes
to the idea that there are not words to describe the beauty we desire but yet
we fight to find words and fight to find a clear understanding of it. We want
to capture beauty and “become a part of it.” Are we experiencing beauty even in
these times of searching? It may be that we need not fight for this visible
sight of reality or beauty, which is not intended for us to define or
compartmentalize, but accept that it is there. It is important to see the
beauty in all that is around us; we ourselves have been made uniquely and
beautifully buy a perfect Creator who is capable of producing nothing but
perfection and beauty; thus we crave this original beauty that once existed in
full perfection without blemish. We desire to taste this beauty in our daily
interactions; when we get a glimpse of this unspeakable beauty there are no
words or ways to capture it but rather it becomes a far off memory that we want
to get back to. We are a part of beauty on a daily basis but we often do not
stop during our busy days to realize this beauty that exists. As we search for
beauty we are experiencing beauty and this is something important to grasp. We
cannot put it into words as Lewis says, yet we desperately want it and continue
to seek it.
