In Sacred and Profane Beauty one chapter discusses primitive artists simply creating art for no other reason than just to create something. It has no applied meaning to anyone else but themselves. Not all art is intended to be viewed and shared by everyone. There is a personal aspect to art. Many artist create art out of simply enjoyment, or relaxation, or therapeutic reasons. It is not always meant to be analyzed and seen by others. Sometimes it is purely only beneficial to the artist and the artist alone. A lot of primitive art was like this. Art is a hobby to many people. Many people use it as something to do out of enjoyment in their free time. I think it's important for it to remain this way still for many people. It is a great way to expression emotion, religion, or other deeper topics, however it is also just something that expresses beauty out of pure enjoyment. I don't think art necessarily needs a meaning to exist, however it is admirable either way.
