All over the world, people are constantly buying and selling rare art. Art collectors have been around for thousands of years. Some people buy are for the pleasure and others buy art to prove their wealth. The article above notices how gender plays a part in art collecting.  When it comes to studying art, more women than men study art,  both undergraduate and graduate levels. Well, by assumption one would think then women are the biggest art collectors. Well this is false. In modern day society, men are the biggest art collectors. The author explains that men become art collectors for the thrill of the hunt. This makes sense since in traditional societies, men hunted to capture trophies and to win women as well as to provide food. When it comes to male collectors they like to advocate the price for their items. Collectors seem to compete for the distinction of paying the highest price ever. Clearly there are female collectors in the world, but they do not advertise their purchases. Women tend to keep their purchases quite. From reading this article, one can make the assumption that Women are true lovers of art compared to Men who simply like to flaunt their money.
