Adam Wade - Nietzsche on Art External Reading #3
Friedrich Nietzsche is somewhat renowned for being a pessimist and a cynic. His view on life in general is one of misery and disgust. His view of art however, was the opposite. He saw music or art as the relief of the agony of this world. It was the one bright spot in the blackness that was existence. This was art's purpose, as Nietzsche saw it, to bring relief to the sufferers of this world. Nietzsche wasn't too concerned with the individual artists intention or affect on observers, but the overall purpose art had in life in general.
