Michael Rybinski- Kalos

1/15/13

In todays class we learned about the root of the word beauty, specifically the greek word “Kalos”. Kalos was used to describe beauty, as well as goodness. I found it particularly interesting that the word Kalos was used in Genesis for the phrase”it is good”. This suggests that not only was God saying that his creation was good, but also that the earth was beautiful. This difference in meaning leads to a greater appreciation of our world because it is not simply just something that’s “good” but also was created for its beauty.
