In class we discussed the concept of taboo
words. The reason we consider words to be “taboo” is because they are capable
of invoking a certain response that can be exceptionally powerful. I have
noticed that in contemporary society more and more words are becoming taboo. It
seems that we are trying to shelter ourselves from any type of emotion
whatsoever. I find this to be a sad facet of our current culture. If we are
consistently shut off from being able to express emotion, then what do we have
left?
