Personal Choice - Abby Hogge

Through watching the movie Babette’s Feast I came to better understand how cooking and sharing a meal together can hold much more value and significance than we give it. It is easy in our culture to consider cooking and eating together a “time-waster” and something that does not seem to happen much anymore. However, I have come to believe that there can be something very significant and spiritual about sharing a meal together. When we decide to share a meal, we are committing time to whomever we have decided to share it with. Many people will say that the love ones they have here on this earth are the most important relationships in their life. It is through food that we often get to experience this love and grow closer with one another. It was in this same manner that Jesus got to experience a time of intimacy and closeness with his disciples as He took of the bread and wine at the Last Supper before His crucifixion. Life cannot be sustained without food and for that reason I believe that the Lord gave us food so that we could glorify Him and treat with great care the bodies He has given us.
