When I think about beauty my immediate thought is love. However, our concept of love, or αγαπέ, or ερος, or whatever word you want to use, could not possible measure up to what is ultimately beautiful. For we as finite beings can not possible understand a love that transcends everything else. If love is beauty than that which is ultimately beautiful must also be a perfect example of that which is love. It is this love that transcends all else. However, our love must be similar to that which is ultimately love, otherwise our application of the adjective ‘love‘ would be meaningless. What is left to ask is what is that which is ultimately beautiful and thus a perfect example of love. It is this that we call God. Only a perfect being in every other way could possibly be what is ultimately beautiful. It is this perfectness that also allows this being to be a perfect example of love.
