Devin McGinnis: Monism, Dualism, The Forms, and Our Existence as it Relates to God.

We talked earlier in the class about the idea of Plato's realm of the forms.  Also in my other philosophy class we were discussing the concepts of dualism and monism.  This got me thinking about the idea of reality.  If we are indeed made by God, in his image, than could we not be considered art?  If this is the case than we would be re-presentations of what is ultimately real, i.e., God.  But the problem arises when we consider what Plato meant.  Does us taking seriously Plato's realm of the forms, and presupposing our creation by God, mean that we are less real? However the alternative is worst.  If we presuppose the idea of monism and that God is what is ultimately real, not only are we not but God makes up our being.  His being is our being.  Where is the middle ground? While there is a dichotomy between our existence and that of God's, we can not even pretend that this dichotomy is opposites.  For opposite puts us in equal opposition to God. We are not equal or greater than God. He is greater than us! Amen
