Adam Wade-Technology's affect on the Arts Reading #2
I was reading Van Der Leuuw's section on "the Pictorial Arts" and came across the point about film. Film "claims both drama and dance for itself". Film is an art form that has arisen out of technology and has almost been taken for granted in it's artistic nature. When someone talks about art, most people jump to great paintings, or sculptures, maybe even symphonies, but film is just embedded in art, if not more so than the others. Film is an art form that combines drama, music, and photography. The plot and similar aspects come from drama, while entire films can be silent, relying purely on music, and in all films, the camera work plays a huge roll. But film is sometimes overlooked as an art form, and simply categorized as entertainment. My main question or idea is whether or not technology takes away from the artistic beauty of images. Is an image made in photoshop as beautiful as one that's painted on a canvas?
