Jem Kamran - Beauty of word as Satire

I was watching the Colbert Report, a show that is completely based on political satire. And I was wondering how words are important in successfully using satire. In a satire the words may not be actually true, but they are powerful due to their intentions. In class we were talking about the beauty of words to move people, and I was wondering where satire would fall? Satire in my opinion is definitely an art, it is a skill of manipulating words to get a message across. In a way Satirist is like a poet weaving words to create a image. In a satire connotation more than meaning seems to be carrying the power and beauty behind it. I have noticed that the appreciation of satire has increased in the past decade. Before than we didn't really have shows that openly criticized the society in a comical way, using satire. I really wonder what have changed in the society that has caused this change? Why all of the sudden it is acceptable and considered a sophisticated to be witty and sassy about serious matters? In a way we are reflecting on ourselves by disassociating ourselves from the society and reflect on human condition subjectively. only through separating ourselves can we find uncomfortable insight about ourselves.
