Rachel Hrovat--Class discussion on American Beauty quote
"Sometimes there's so much beauty in the world, I feel like I can't take it, and my heart is just going to cave in. " This was a quote that we heard during a clip from American Beauty and then discussed during class. In the clip, they were watching a bag blowing around in the air, and the two characters were discussing the electricity that must have been in the air, and the girl was drawn into the world that the boy was showing to her. Watching this bag blowing in the wind overwhelmed the boy because he saw it as dancing in the wind. This scene and event shows that if people would only stop to "smell the roses "every now and again, they might be more aware of the beauty that surrounds them. We are in a "search for beauty" and in search for what is "real" but the curious thing about this is that we are in search for it when all we really have to do is open up our eyes to the beauty that is all around. Its reframing in a way. To reframe the mindset and see the "normal" as beautiful and not take everything for granted as we tend to so often do in our society.
