Morris Weitz classified art as "indefinable". In his opinion, philosophers and art critiques a like have over analyzed and attempted to define an indefinable thing. In Weitz's opinion, the nature and meaning of art is varied and an "open" concept. It is whatever the artist feels it is, and that is all. Weitz stresses the over analysis of words and concepts when considering art and feels as though certain concepts may be unintentional or have no meaning whatsoever as far as the artist is concerned. How then can another "know" what a piece means or is made for?
