Adam Wade- Sound as Power Reading #3

"We don't see things as powerful without some Image"

We talked about the power and importance of images the other day in class and I thought it was really interesting.  Images are incredibly powerful.  Whether it be a picture of a soldier or a laughing family, a "picture is worth 1000 words" .  While I can appreciate the importance and impact of images, I find music and sound to be even more impactful.  Have you ever tried watching a scary movie while its muted?  All suspense is lost.  All fear is lost, but merely shutting your eyes isn't enough to get the thoughts out of your head; the sound and music drives the emotion.  A national anthem can move an entire nation; a symphony can touch and inspire thousands; a song can even alter moods and emotions.  Sounds are powerful.  The lack of sound is equally as powerful.  "Silence is the greatest expression".  A person can say the most by simply not saying anything at all.  A decision to not choose is still a choice, the same applies to silence.  The discomfort an elongated silence can cause is amazing, especially in today's social media/communication obsessed society.
