Art, Artist, Artifact

We discussed the idea of art and its creator in class on the 11th of February. Three divisions of art were the artist, the artifact, and the audience. In conjunction with these there is the creator, co-creator, and co-creators. The artist is seen as the creator, the artifact is seen as the co-creator, and the audience is therefore the co-creators. I found this concept to be very interesting. The artist indeed creates the piece of work and gives it life. He or she is the one who brings it into its existence. The artifact itself can be seen as a co-creator. For example the brush that a painter uses to create a painting would be the artifact in this case. The audience most definitely takes part in co-creating. They are the ones that interpret and give meaning to the work of art, they are arguably the most influential.
