Devin McGinnis: Heidegger and an Apple

I was thinking about the concept of Heidegger's holistic concept of art and how he put forth the idea that art reveals being.  This lead me to the idea of trees and fruit.  Art is like fruit, and every tree is known by the fruit that it produces, therefore the fruit of said tree reveals a lot about the tree from which it came.  If you want to know what is in the heart of a man, one must examine, not what he says, but what he does and what he creates, his fruit.  A man can say he believes in love and hope.  The individual can tattoo it upon his chest, stand on a soap box and proclaim his supposed belief, but nothing will speak loader than his actions and his creations. His love for his family, for example, would speak louder than anything he could tattoo upon his chest.4  Furthermore if you want to know what is at the heart of a culture, look at its art, listen to its music, read its poetry and you will begin to know the tree from which it came.
