In class on 1/23 we watched a video clip from the film American Beauty. It showed a video that the son made in the film, a video he called art. It was of a simple plastic bag blowing in the wind. This simple video of a plastic bag just blowing in the wind was really touching to the girl in the film. It was a good demonstration of how inanimate objects can be given life and made beautiful through the eyes of someone. Many people over look simple inanimate objects as art, but those who are able to transform it into something great and full of life are able to see the beauty within them. I think that is the key to good art, being able to see what others cannot and giving life to something that did not previously have it. Also the idea of communion comes into play with a creation of art such as this. The girl in the film exhibits how she is touched by his art when she kisses him on the cheek; letting him know that she sees the beauty and appreciates it as well. When art gets people to feel the emotion of the artist it's really something beautiful. This scene from American Beauty demonstrated that.
