Joel Hagstrom- How We Touch the Sky

While looking through my notes I stumbled upon the idea that trees and mountains are connectors of the Earth and Sky.  It makes sense because these natural objects jut up into the sky and allow us to make connections between the ground and the world up in the air.  By climbing some of the taller mountains man is actually on the threshold between the world below and the sky above.  This got me thinking about how modern day structures have taken away some of the appeal from these natural connectors to the heavens.  We have buildings thousands of feet tall that take us into the sky.  Skyscrapers are in fact modern day connectors between the Earth and the Sky.  Radio towers that reach the clouds are another modern day way of connecting the two entities.  This shows a transition, to me, from the natural to the industrial and exemplifies how modern day technical advances have placed nature onto the back burner of importance in our lives.  I wonder if there are ways that combine both natural and industrial means of connecting the Earth and Sky that already exist?  Or how we can refocus back on our natural connectors?
