In on of the first few classes, we discussed the difference between representing, presenting, and pre-presenting. Dr. Redick said that art does not represent something, it presents something. The goal of art is not to make a model of something, but to present something completely new. Pre-presenting was a concept I had not considered before and found to be very interesting Pre-presenting is something before it happens, such as magic. I do not think many artists are capable of pre-presenting things in their works of art, but I do agree with Dr. Redick in that artists present something new in their work as opposed to representing something that already exists.
