Mary Smith - Beauty Within Culture (Outside Reading #2)
After reading "All Stereotypes are True, Except... Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder" it really got me thinking about all of the different cultures and the things they go through to fit in and be "beautiful" in their culture. People are born innately, meaning they know who and what is beautiful, and what is not. A study was done showing that starting at a very early stage, at right when they are born, babies stare longer at things they find appealing and attractive, and this is where it begins. They also react better with attractive strangers, masks, and even babysitters (all tests done). This shows that beauty is innate to us because a baby can in no way learn through social media or any other source as to what is attractive and what is not. So.. is beauty in the eye of the beholder? Or is it instilled in us at birth?
