In Sacred in Profane Beauty, Van Deer Leew talks a lot
about music, and we have discussed music in class quite a bit too. I came in contact
with a quote that sums up a lot of what he says about music:
“Music is a word in itself. But it is a particular world
which we experience, and not, for example, a formal game of sounds or an
equilibriums of relationships. “
This quote means that
music defines art so broadly that it just be considered a piece of art. There
are so many different ways music is used. It can be used in programs, operas,
and drama. There are so many different genres of music out there. Plus, it
makes many different types of instruments to create music. Every culture has a different way of
experiencing music, too. You can look at music through religion, science, art,
etc.
