Tolstoy's Theory - Art as
Communication of Feelings
Tolstoy believes art is transferred by language. He specifically focuses on the topic of human kind. Art should not be seen as pleasurable; instead it should consider the conditions of human life. If you receive emotion or feeling from another person, and you’re able to experience those exact feelings of the other person, than it is considered art. This is done through communication.
Example:
Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Getting Back Together” is about her recent
breakup. I am not going through a breakup, but when I hear her song, I am able
to experience her same feelings.
