Adam Wade-The beauty of a road External Reading #1

I've recently been reading "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac and have been totally caught up in the beauty of freedom that a road gives to a person.

A road is pavement; a road is lined, but a road symbolizes infinite potential.  There is a beauty and magic to being away from home, away from comfort.  With the comforts of home come the stresses of responsibilities.  Keruoac's novel is inspired by his own hitchhiking adventures, adventures that fueled the expression and emotion we define as art.  I see the "search for beauty" as similar to the search one ventures on when they choose to hitchhike across country.  The motives are similar.  When one looks for beauty, one seeks for a glimpse into another reality, a place of peace even.  When one ventures off from home, they seek the very same.  They yearn for another reality, one different than their own.  They find peace in a lack of obligations, both social and responsibility wise.  In a world where no one knows who you are, you can redefine yourself at any instant.  There are no routines, there are no trivial day in - day out matters.  It's an entirely different realm opened up through the medium of travel, whilst art is the medium to a second realm of expression.
