Will Bassing - In class blog on the Greek Temple of Poseidon

I find it interesting that creating and confining space, through buildings and temples, brings out a certain “hidden power and spirit, or energy from the earth.”  In class we discussed the Greek temple of Poseidon, the temple has a solemn, commanding, strong, powerful presence.  Some of the “power” comes from the fact that it has stood for 2,000+ years.  It has a worn down, weathered, mystical presence.  Modern temples/churches still have these common attributes.  Many gothic style cathedrals have elaborate stonework, gargoyles, and huge towering ceilings.  This creates the same “hidden power and spirit” in the churches that the temple of Poseidon creates
