Mood Lighting

Mood Lighting

This passed weekend I was in Richmond for my brother's "bachelor party" I say it this way because it didn't contain any of the debauchery one associates with a bachelor party, and also didn't take place the night before his wedding as is customary. This was done based on the busy schedules of he and his groomsmen. While at the first restaurant, we noticed that the lighting was turned down, in order to create a more intimate experience, I imagine. This effect was lost to us because we were very raucous. I was curious though, how this lighting place into the entire dining experience, whether it was simply a tool to give patrons a sense of privacy from each other, or if there was some psychological precedent for this method that was being employed to benefit the restaurant. This technique wasn't isolated to this restaurant only. After we had finished at this restaurant, we ventured off to another for dessert, and this restaurant was more dimly lit than the first. It did seem to relax us a bit. It was either that or the large quantity of food each of us had consumed, but we became very amicable.
