In Ancient Art and Ritual, Jane Ellen
Harrison says art and ritual rise out of a common impulse. An impulse causes
humans to act (emotion).
Harrison
says,
“We must not only
utter emotion, we must represent it, that is, we must in
some way reproduce or imitate or express the thought which is causing us
emotion. “
By this quote, it means that you have to
fully experience an emotion. Once you feel that emotion, you must represent it
by expressing the cause of the emotion. You can do this through art. Rather it
be through music, drama, etc.
